5 Ways to Wear Animal Prints this Fall

July 28th, 2018

Cats may have nine lives but it is perhaps a big cat print — leopard — that is the queen of rebirth. Over the past few years designers are celebrating this classic print and all its furry friends — from zebra to tiger and everything in between. And it makes me want to purr with delight.

I have been wearing animal prints as long as I can remember. Each year I purchase some variation of an animal print coat — sometimes cropped and sassy; others classic, like a tailored trench. Usually a pump and handbag are also added to the mix. Luckily, for fall many of my fav designers worked my must-have print into their collections in a big way.

From Victoria Beckham to Tom Ford, Diane Von Furstenberg and Proenza Schouler, animal prints were slashing and clawing their way down runways on coats, dresses, shoes and more.

Of course, it’s no surprise that I immediately pawed at this leopard print dress when I spied it at Twigs. I adore the silky texture, wrap styling and of course, the bold print. Pairing it with OTK boots and this eclectic resin choker added a luxe vibe to the already fab frock.

How do you plan to work this top trend into your wardrobe this fall? Here are a five fun tips for making it work:

1. Wear it as a Neutral: Yes, a NEUTRAL! Animal print is as classic as black any day of the week, so don’t be afraid to wear it like you would your favorite black pieces. It’s unexpected and posh.
2. Pair it with Your Favorite Denim: Animal prints and denim go together like peanut butter and chocolate. It just works.
3. Go Monochromatic: You read that right — pair your animal print dress with your animal print pumps and animal print handbag. It’s a fall-perfect statement that will make you stand out in a wonderful way.
4. Try it in a New Color: Colorful animal prints return bigger than ever this season, so why not trade in your classic animal print hues for a ravishing red, naughty navy or chic chartreuse version?
5. Mix and Match with Other Prints: Print mixing is a battle for many people but it shouldn’t make you break into a sweat. Simply stick to the same color family (like neutrals) and pair more dense prints with more airy prints for more class than clash.

Let your animal prints roar this fall, fashionistas! After all, it’s all in good feral fun.
